If you have more than one computer at home but only want to bother with one monitor, keyboard, and mouse, a KVM switch like Belkin's new Flip is an excellent investment.

Many home and office computer users are not aware of the convenience of KVM switches such as the new Flip KVM Switch series from Belkin. KVM switches are quick and easy ways to share two different computers with one monitor, keyboard, and mouse. The KVM switch connects to all of the various components and allows you to switch the connection between the computers without turning off the computer, unplugging, and moving the cables to the other device. KVM's also allow you to connect your desktop's keyboard, monitor, and mouse to your laptop as well.

Belkin's Flip KVM Switch Marries Style With Versatility:

Belkin's new Flip KVM is available in six different varieties to serve almost any setup that you might have in your home or office. Regardless of whether you have USB connections on your keyboard, or if you have a DVI based monitor connection a different Flip is available to fit your configuration.

There are USB KVM switches for keyboards and mice with PS/2 connections and USB connections. These models (the F1DF102P and F1DF102U respectively) will work with almost any computer. Check your wires before you buy, and make sure to get the right one for your setup. These two entry model KVM switches retail for around $50 each.

One step up from the traditional KVM switch adds support for audio output as well. The F1DG102P for PS/2 mice and keyboards and the F1DG102U for USB connections both sell for $60 each, but add the ability to switch the speakers from one computer to the other as well.

For those wanting to step up to the ultimate in versitility and style, you can select from the Wireless Flip KVM (F1DG102W) with USB connections and a battery powered wireless switching button. The other varieties of Flip KVM's all have their switching button connected by a thin white cable. With the wireless Flip you can mount the diminutive little button anywhere within range of the switch itself using a small adhesive pad that comes with the kit.

If you have a DVI monitor and want to keep the high resolution while still having the convenience of a USB KVM DVI-D switch you can go for the Cadillac of the Belkin Flip line with their F1DG102D at $150. The DVI-D Flip also includes audio support but does not come with a wireless option.

The Belkin Flip Review: Do They Really Work?

The answer to this question is a very solid yes. During tests the Flip performed exactly as promised. The additional laptop audio extension cable (included with the audio equipped models) gives you plenty of additional length to get the speaker connection out and away from the side of your laptop, and the wireless connectivity of the model reviewed was very reliable. Should the battery run out or the cable connecting the button to the switch become damaged, you can download additional software for free from the Belkin site allowing you to control the Flip through a keyboard hot-key sequence. The software adds the additional ability to listen to music from one computer while working on the other one!

Overall, using a KVM switch can make a person's life much easier if they have to work between two different computers. The Belkin Flip KVM Switches make this task incredibly easy and very stylish as well.
