This step by step tutorial shows you how to install LED lights on your PlayStation 2.

Now you can really dazzle your friends by jazzing up your PlayStation 2 with extra LED lights. There's a wide range of LED lights available on the market, in a broad array of colors for you to mix and match. Read on to learn how to add lights to your PlayStation.

Things

  • Screwdriver
  • Knife
  • Wire strippers

Step #1

Visit your local auto parts or RadioShack store. In the LED section, pick out LED lights that are capable of handling at least 12 volts of electricity. There usually are several colors that you can choose from.

Step #2

Pick out electrical wire that is of the appropriate gauge and solder negative to the short stem from the LED, positive to the long stem. Ask for help from a salesperson if necessary.

Step #3

With your purchases made, you need to open up your PS2. IMPORTANT: Opening up your PS 2 voids your warranty: if you cause any damage to your system, Sony will not cover it. You open it at your own risk.

Step #4

Turn your game console upside down. Remove the cover caps and unscrew all of the screws at the bottom of the console. Turn it back the right side up. Take off the expansion bay cover and then very, very slowly and carefully pull up at an angle. You need to do this with extreme care so as not to damage the power ribbon that is connected to the power button and the eject button.

Step #5

With the top off, slide your knife under the power button and the eject button from the inside of the console to pop them out. Next, move on to the controller ports. Unscrew the screw to the left and to the right. This will allow for the bottom to come off.

Step #6

Move on to the fan and the main power button. Unscrew the screw that is on the left-hand side of the fan, in a crevice. Now slide out the piece holding the fan and power button in place - very, very slowly and carefully. Take great care because the fan’s wires are very thin and delicate. Once you have removed this, you can take it off of the fan and power button.

Step #7

Flip your PlayStation 2 onto the bottom side. You should see that the main power button is still on. You can easily remove it from the power board by pressing down the tab and pulling it off.

Step #8

On the power board, you should see four screws, which allows you to pull up the power board. This is where you will start wiring. When you pull up your power board, you should notice there are four pins attached to it. You will need to hold the power board up where you can see all the hardware on it.

Step #9

Hold the component where the pins face away from you. The side on your left is your positive side and the right side is the negative side. Find the positive wire on the LED put it in the positive slot. Do the same for the negative wire. Put your PlayStation 2 back together and plug the system in. When you switch it on, your LED lights should appear on your PS2. And you are done.
